Steven Lehrer is a Board and Senior Management Advisor to Life Science Companies. Steve has over 30 years of experience starting, growing and running life science based businesses focused on commercializing new technology. Steve has extensive experience in pharmaceutical R&D, regulatory and operations, biopharmaceutical R&D, regulatory, operations, commercialization and biosimilars, molecular diagnostics discovery, validation and commercialization, bioinformatics/health care econometrics analysis, health care reimbursement/establishing reimbursement for new medical technology and synthetic biology development and commercialization.
Steve was CEO of Cipla BioTec, which demonstrated the ability to develop affordable cancer biosimilars including negotiating various government incentive packages worldwide to build biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing facilities. While at Cipla BioTec he also had his team work with local universities to develop “biotech” curriculum/run extensive internship programs to help ensure the local “eco-systems” would have the right skills sets in order to build out biotechnology-based businesses. Prior to joing Cipla BioTec, Steve was an EVP Consulting Services at Optimal Strategix Group, EVP of Commercial Operations and CEO of Asia for Adamas Pharmaceuticals, CEO of Geneos, President of Glycominds, CEO of DNA Sciences and a Division President at Monsanto. Prior to his career at Monsanto, Steve worked for McKinsey & Co. and P&G.
Besides his recent work with National and Local governments and academic centers while at Cipla BioTec, Steve has a long history of working with National and Local Governments to build out Life Science companies. Steve negotiated agreements with the Governments of Indonesia, Japan and Singapore to develop new technology and infrastructure in biotechnology, worked extensively with the Government of Finland to determine how to best use its healthcare data to build health outcomes research expertise. Geneos was eventually bought by the Finnish Government to continue this work. He also worked to secure funding from the State of Pennsylvania to build advanced molecular genetic testing labs and “anchor” a new life science park in Hershey PA. These experiences can help provide the “customer” view as to how to encourage life science companies to come to South Africa.
Steve currently sits on the Board of Directors of 2 life science companies and provides strategy advise to several CEO/senior management teams on a wide range of topics from commercial strategy through operations /business development and portfolio planning.
Steve has a Master’s Degree from The at Harvard University and a BSE in Chemical Engineering and a BA in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park. Graduate School of Business.
